First Christian Church

High Street

First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) finds its roots deep in history, its feet firmly planted in the present, and its eyes lifted toward the future. Founded in 1836, congregations across three centuries now have worshipped in the High Street facility since 1868, the sanctuary having been dedicated just three years after the end of the Civil War!

The Disciples of Christ Brotherhood, of which First Christian is a part, is a Bible-based, congregationally-autonomous denomination. The church welcomes all into fellowship and encourages each person to work toward developing his or her personal relationship with Jesus Christ through prayer, study, worship, and service. No one is told how or what they must believe.

First Christian recently completed an interior and exterior renovation of its Gothic Revival building, the centerpiece of that work being the installation of an elevator to carry worshippers to the church’s unique second-story sanctuary. New lighting has been added to the sanctuary in addition to a new handicapped-accessible bathroom, a complete re-working of the entry, a fire escape, and a variety of other cosmetic improvements. Exterior painting and stabilization has also been completed.

But more than just the building, members of the church are working to expand First Christian’s outreach, and as a “renewing” church are intent to find new ways to minister to the members, reach the unchurched, and provide programs for all ages.

Philip Case, an ordained minister in the Christian Church, is currently serving as the church’s part-time minister. Phil Case lives in Frankfort and is a writer for The State Journal, Frankfort’s daily newspaper. He also writes a column for The Gallatin County News.

We invite you to join us for Sunday School at 10 a.m., and worship at 11 each week. From September to May we also have an evening youth program for all ages. Our Christian Women’s Fellowship is very active, too, and Bible studies are scheduled from time to time.

First Christian Church is proud to be part of the Warsaw community and if you’re looking for a church, we would be happy to welcome you!
